The City Trilogy
BUDHADITYA CHATTOPADHYAY
'The City Trilogy' is a series of sound-works consisting of three compositions (Passage to the City, Eye Contact with the City and The Well Tempered City Book I) that explores interaction, auditory perception and mediation of urban landscapes. In these works, sonic interaction with a city involves delving into temporal experiences and reflecting upon the intrinsic voices that architecture of a city produces in terms of resonant frequencies of urban places, minute and subtle vibrations of built-spaces and sonic intervention within the city structures, in the form of digital-acoustic compositions/work of sonic arts.
Hashtag Confessions (8.3.2011 & 8.4.2011)
HEATHER WARREN-CROW
HashtagConfession (8.3.2011 & 8.4.2011) documents the collective emotions of English-language Tweeters on the third and fourth of August, 2011. To create the piece, I gathered a large number of Tweets all tagged “#confession,” arranged the Tweets by subject, and repositioned them in list form. Then, I recorded the Mac computer voice “Alex” reading the mass confession aloud. What emerged is a series of sometimes contradictory, sometimes consistent thoughts on sex, death, fear, wrongdoing, love, and racial and national identification. The stilted computer voice adds an element of humor to the piece as well as a surprising tenderness—mimicking the absurdity and pathos of the Twitter experience.
