The Factory is a group for young people aged 14-19, with an interest in finding out about digital art and how to be more creative with technology.
The Factory presents an opportunity for like-minded young people to meet and get involved in exciting creative projects in close collaboration with the professional artists who are part of the Pixel Palace programme.
Each week The Factory meets at the Tyneside Cinema to develop new work with the support of a Creative Producer and three Mentors, all of whom are young artists each specialising in different fields of digital art and new media.
In January 2013, The Factory launched Season One, a new programme of activity inspired by the work of Vicki Bennett (aka People Like Us). Vicki Bennett is an artist who specialises in animating and reconstructing collages from found material, giving a witty and dark view of popular culture with a surrealist edge. Pixel Palace has commissioned Vicki to develop a new work, Gesture Piece – a film for live improvisers. The Factory’s work in progress for Season One can be seen on the group's tumblr.
